Need a DML Sea Sparrow box launcher!
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 9:20 AM
I am currently building a massive conversion converting the Tamiya Iowa class New Jersey to a proposed heavy assault ship by Howard Pulver. The build is nearing completion but I need one last Sea Sparrow box launcher to complete the weapon systems. I have robbed the SS from my DML Spruance model but I need one more.

I considered casting another, but the cost and time it would take to get everything here is prohibitive. If I strike out here, my only alternative is scratch building. If anyone has one in thier scrap box, I would be willing to pay a fair price for it as well as shipping. Please contact me off board at shipmodeler@sbcglobal.net.

Many thanks.

You can order spare part colections from mail oreder like Pacific Front, Trident, Naval base.

Technical note:

Durring the planning phase, of the refits of the Iowas, in the early 1980s, it was found that the over-pressure (force waves) caused by the blast, of the 16 inch guns, would dammage the Mk29 GMLS for the Sea Sparrow missiles.

Chasing the ultimate build.

I'll give that a try. I wasn't aware they supplied ectra parts. The purpose is NOT to build a technically accurate operational ship. Rather to build an exact replica of the proposed submission to Congress. I have noticed a number of technical gaffs that would prove unusable in the real world in the drawimgs I am using. One being mounting a CIWS mounted on the Pri-fly ROOF! Can you imagine what would happen to all that equipment (not to mention the deafening noise) when that CIWS cut loose? If the vibration and noise wasn't enough, the CIWS would be fireing right over the flight deck when fireing aft! Imagine flight operations while under fire while that was going on.
