Thanks MBT70, I appreciate your comments. I read three books on the Arizona before I even began the model. I also purchased two movies on the Arizona. The books where:
Day of Infamy by Walter Lord
USS Arizona Ship's Data by Norman Friedman
Battleship Arizona by Paul Stillwell

The movies where:
The Life and Death of a Lady
Here Comes the Navy

Personally, I find the research on the subject I'm modeling as interesting as making the model. This is the reason I decided to show my Arizona as a "museum-type" construction versus an "in-service configuration".

Once again, thank you and everyone else for your comments,
Jesse

Seriously .... that really is a very well-built ship model. The fact that it is your first makes it all the more amazing and you are to be commended for such careful research and studying as you proceeded with the build. It's very evident in the quality of your work that you learned all you could before proceeding. And I have an idea that is not criticism, but rather a different interpretation of your purpose. The fine lines and clean details you have right now are a museum-type construction of the vessel and in that genre it's well-done. If you elected to represent the ship in more of an in-service configuration, you could add some subtle weathering and rusting that would really maked it pop out and look more like an actual miniature ship than a builder's model. The danger is in overdoing it and "muddying up" the fine details you have captured already. Just a thought ...

The railings on the deck were easy. The railings around the superstructure were a real pain in the butt.

Hey-Mister Morgan-I just bought my first ship-the Aurora of Red October fame (not the movie). Love those early dreadnought types-although seeing your Arizona has inspired me to give that a try too-it's a really cool 'transitional' ship and loaded with history.

Thats a GREAT looking ARIZONA model !!
I am currently building my first ship model, the USS North Carolina BB55 in 1/350 scale. If it turns out half as good as your Arizona, I will be happy.

That really is a very impressive model, and absolutely amazing for a first ship model (my first ship, the Revell USS Long Beach, is best
consigned to the spares box)
The rigging and railings in particular are really well-done.

What kit manufacturer and scale is it?
