Been out for a while here now. Looks like a great kit, from what little I know of ships!
Goes for about $60 USD here in Japan.

Saw the inside of the box in a display case, its good. Worth the money.

This answers my question:
Hasegawa 1/350 scale IJN Battleship "Mikasa" Special Edition plastic model kit.
This is a completely newly-tooled kit of the famous IJN Battleship from the Battle of Tsushima in 1905. This edition of the kit is a "special first edition run" that also includes a metal 54mm figure of Admiral Togo, a full-color 16" x 24" poster "Figure in the Mikasa Bridge" and a 40mm diameter gold or silver medallion commemorating the Battle of the Japan Sea. Overall a great collector's package.

Why is it so darned expensive? I know it's 1/350 but wasn't a big ship.

Internet Hobbies has it for $84.99.

What I heard was that they sold out their entire first delivery. When that happens and they also filled all pre-orders it drops from view until stock is received again or it is moved back to pre-order. This also happened with the North Carolina when it came through.

Just heard from Squadron that mine is shipping today. No explanation why it disappeared from the web site.

Can't wait to get hold of mine.

I live less than a mile from where the original was built so mine will be another Barrow-built Mikasa.

Does anyone know if Squadron has dropped their plans to handle the Mikasa? I have one on pre-order but now it has disappeared from their web site completely. I have an email iin to them as well but thought I'd ask here.

Thanks

I'll be getting one soon! My kit's on the way, I'm happy to report. greatmodels.com have them in stock and mine was shipped on Saturday. I'll give a complete report when it arrives (unless someone beats me to it -- entirely possible!).
