Nice! Thank you for this info; it's very helpful. Unfortunately, none of my LHS carries Pit Road's paints, but I'll be looking for the Tamiya one next time I go shopping.

So what color were those linoleum decks? Did they paint them the same color as the hull and superstructure? I have about 50+ 1/700 scale Japanese destroyers I never painted because I could never (before now) get an accurate pic/description of how they were supposed to look.

Any details would help...

To my knowledge, no IJN destroyers had wooden decks. They were covered with lino and used brass strips to hold them in place. The fore and aft areas by the anchors and depth charge racks were bare steel, painted in the hull color, with traction strips screwed into the deck. These were at angles, so it resembles oversized tread plate.

Thats a tough one. I would venture that the destroyers built durring 1920s and before programs were probably teak. The later destroyers had linoleum.

Be careful, the wood decks could be painted over as can the linoleum. Though linoleum does not hold paint well. Ships were painted for operations. Japanesse paint did not have good quality control as far as color was concerned, though the paint was of good quality otherwise untill the last years of the war.
