USS Saipan (CVL-48)
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, July 29, 2005 9:00 PM
Does anyone know if a kit of the USS Saipan (CVL-48) or USS Wright (CVL-49) is currently available or if one was ever made? It was only a two ship class and both were commissioned after the end of WW II, so they're probably not very well known.

I'm hoping to track one down, if it's available, and convert it to its command ship configuration (USS Wright, CC-2).

Thanks for any help.

These two ships where part of the Essex class carriers and had entered service after WW2.

You can get you hand on any of the Essex class ships and renumber them I believe CVL 48 and 49 where not modernised and remaimed the same though out their serivice.

The Saipan CVL-48 and Wright CVL-49 were aircraft carriers converted from Baltimore class heavy cruisers in the same manner as Independance class aircraft carriers were converted from Cleveland class light cruisers. They were converted in the late 1950s to aircraft control and then communication ships. Once satellites took over communications they were retired.

Chasing the ultimate build.
