I was searching Squadron, Modelmecca, etc for the 1/72 military kits to use with the Revell u-boat. Specifically the 4 barrelled flakveirling. I saw a 12.8 cm Flak 44, and a 12.8 cm Flakzwiling (twin barrel). Very cool! Might look good on the sub, even if they never used them. I just like the big guns!

i don't think the subs were using 12.8cm flak guns for aa purposes because that is a 5" gun. check to make certain it is not a 2.8cm as twin 12.8cm would be in a turret & be a cruiser sub?

I think it would make an interesting " what if " , project . Dragon , and others ,offers alot of " what if " armor , like the E-100 , Mause , Kugelblitz , etc . , that never made it to the units , or in some cases , off the drawing board . The same goes for aircraft . A U-boat with twin 1.28 CM guns would be interesting . The French had the Surcouf ( hope I got the spelling right ), a sub , with a big gun , as well as the Brits , and the Japanese navies ,who knows what the Germans had on the drawing board !

there was a uboat developed that was known as the u Flak!!!! it had flakvierlig on the conning tower and a, what i think, was a flak 38, or could have been MGs. ud have to look it up though, this was ages ago!!!it was a definate creation though, to try to lure allied aircraft and then shhot them down. worked for a bit, but then all of the boats were converted back to normal. ALSO, does anyone here know where i could get a cheap 1/72 flakvierlig? im trying this on the revell kit. might even make it R/C, if i can get the parts!!!!!

the 12.8 cm flugabwehrkanone 40 und 45 was heavy for any small ship, around 27 tons, they were intended for the flak towers but only 34 were installed
