Titanic: Minicraft Deluxe vs. "Regular" Version
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 10:19 PM
I'm going to be getting a 1/350 version of the Titanic, and was looking at the two Minicraft versions. Are the parts molded in similar colors, or are they different? The Deluxe version says it has a black hull, cream deck pieces, black props and anchors, etc. The "Regular" version only says it has a black hull.

My concern is with painting. Can the "colored" pieces stand as they are (cream decks, black hull, etc.), or should they be repainted?

Thanks for any and all help.

Regards,
Michael

Ritingfool,

The color issue is one that has been around for ages, (so the modeler won't need to paint, yeah right) You diff. need to paint the pieces, the plastic is the wrong color. Try this site for ALL the infor you need.

I've done extensive work for Mini-Craft on the Titanic. The regular version does not include the photo etched railing and ladders kit from Loren Perry. The deluxe version does. Additionally, when you state "regular" are you talking about the older boxed version? If so, do not get it as several details are totally wrong on the ship. I worked with Al Tremble of Mincraft to make corrections to the mold back in 1997-98. Here is what they added.

The bow anchor well with anchor.
The correct hatch top for the forehatch.
Corrected number of bow portholes.
Corrected shape of support rear deck area.

You will know you have a "improved" version, as the inside cover to the instr.sheet will have my name as well as others listed for the improvments. other than a new painting by Ken Marshall on the box cover, modelers sometime don't know if they are getting an improved version or old one. I wish they would have re-numbered the kit box so e could tell.

I just finished the kit about a month ago. I used a number of the gold medals photo etch sets and really liked the davit set for the lifeboats. I would recommmend that you test fit as you go along because of fit problems with the kit. Good Luck
