Destroyer Conversion
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, August 6, 2005 10:13 PM
How hard would it be to convert a 1/700 DD-797 Cushing to a DD-661 Kidd? I'm toying with the idea, and hoping that it would be relatively easy (not to mention cheap). Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated.

If you want to model Kidd before her emergency AA fit, then all you need to do is change the hull number and camo scheme.

If you want to do Kidd in her 1945 configuration, you need to remove the forward torpedo tubes and replace them with an oval shaped platform for a pair of Mk 51 Fire Control directors, and you need to replace the midship 40mm twins with quad 40mm. This also means the boxes have to be considerably bigger.

The Cushing carried single 20mm Oerlikons, and the Kidd carried twin 20mms with Mk 14 gunsights after her AA fit.
