They might still be here together next week, butchy. By the way, two more are just across the river in Newport News, the Enterprise and the G. Washington. We've had as many as five tied up here at once on a few occasions. That doesn't even count the LHAs and the like. There are three or four of them tied up here too.
Now let's not talk about tours on subs, I think I can hold my own on that one. (Including the JC)

Subfixer, living in San Diego, I've occasionally seen 3 of them tied up at North Island. Four in the same view would be an impressive sight indeed.

Butchy, about fifteen, maybe twenty years back, I got an informal tour of USS Drum (I think, definitely Permit class if not Drum) from her XO. The XO was giving a little tour for some of his friends, and I was able to get on through the nebulous connection of his wife being a good friend of the mother of a good friend of mine. I think that it was the most interesting dockside tour I have ever taken. As an engineer, I found it it fascinating how they are able to cram so much stuff into such a little hull, yet still have everything all accessible, and at the same time making the boat as roomy as it is. Amazing boats.

I'm getting down to visit my Son in Virgina Beach next week.. I hope they're still there, I have a escort and a great camera...
BTW Sufixer.. I got a limited access tour of the Jimmy Carter a while back.. Eat your heart out..LOL ( I did some time aboard the late great Parche a long time ago in early 75) and another recent Parche crewmember that is in USSVI is now aboart the Carter..Actually more than a few spooks from Parche are aboard her. I do understand that the JC is up to all the tricks the Parche could do and then some...She is a truely amazing Boat..

With 4 of the carriers in Norfolk at one time and presumable their battle groups one wonders "who is watching the store" I would assume Oceana NAS is also crowded

The USS Carl Vinson is here adding to the perpetual parking problem at Norfolk Naval Station. Tied up at the piers with the Ike (CVN 69), the Teddy Roosevelt (CVN 71) and the Harry S Truman (CVN 75), ol' CVN 70 is adding its horde of sailors to the morning traffic jam of 18 to 20 year old inexperienced drivers, all of whom are late for work and vying for the same parking spot. What a mess! But it is a pretty awesome sight to see those four monsters all nestled together. The nightmare commute is worth it. (Just the ship's companies without the airwings deployed with their minions total 14,000 or so).
