Make two cuts, the width of the opening, with a razor saw. Then simply pull the section out and sand the area. You could also scribe the edge of the bulwark with a blade first to make sure the break is clean.

Adding gangways to a Victory ship

I am in the home stretch - I think - with my 1/700 Victory ship and am getting down to some of the insaner details, in this case the boarding gangways that were fixed to each side near the forward end of the superstructure, on the outside of the bulwarks. They apparently folded up flat to lay flush against the bulwarks so they would not get ripped off during heavy weather.

I've decided that a folded over piece of photo etch ladder is adequate to represent the gangway, but how to get it flush to the hull? The resin bulwarks are thin as it is, and I am VERY hesitant to take a knife or power tool to them to try and route out an insert so they would lay flush. Should I just bag it, or anyone have any other suggestions?
