Blue Ridge Almost Ready for Launch
Posted by Duke Maddog on Sunday, August 14, 2005 5:14 AM
Hey everyone. Here is one of my latest ship kits I've been working on. I have gotten a bit more progress completed on the USS Blue Ridge.

After having painted the hull, I went to work on the main superstructure, getting it all assembled. I decided to test fit it here for you to see:

Later, I went to work building the remaining deck structures and then painting them up when they were dry. I did a little detail painting but there is still quite a bit to do as you can see in this pic:

Later on I'll put the antennas on when there is less risk of breaking them off from handling. I have just a few more details to finish before I can clearcoat this one for decals.

I had also done some additional painting and touching up on the Glasgow and Hawaiian Pilot but I didn't take pics because there wasn't any more progress done with building along with the painting. I'll wait till I have more progress done on them before posting pics.

Comments are welcome.

Gee, I guess I haven't done very well since I've had 23 views and no comments.. I'm an OOB ship builder so I apologize for not having all the P/E and other things on it.

Anyway, I thought I'd show this because according to several sources, this model and her sister Mount McKinley aren't scheduled to be released until September.

This is a fun build and I'm so glad to finally have this and the McKinley as part of my collection. I may even have it finished this weekend!

What scale is that? I'm more of a WWII guy, but that's a sweet looking ship.

Thanks Captain! I love doing ships, but can barely afford basic supplies, so everything is OOB.

Mfsob, this is the 1/700 scale Trumpeter offering.

I'll have more pics of her when I get more done.

After finally getting the detail painting done, my Blue Ridge is ready for decals:

I should be finished with her sometime this week at the rate things are going.

Oh, and for those who'd like to see my 1/700 scale Blue Ridge escorted by a 1/700 scale Spruance-class, here she is being excorted by the USS O'Brien:

I'll post my next set of pics once this ship is finished.

Comments are welcome.

Nice job.. I really enjoy off the main stream topics.. A fast Fleet oiler would be a nice addition to 1/700 line too. I have held off purchasing this kit until now.. Your post has convinced me to try one out.

I saw this kit in a local shop the other week. Almost went for it, but decided on a 1/700 USS Wisconsin instead. I'll definately buy it next time on the strength of your build.

Thanks captain and butchy! This kit is a fun little build and I think you'll enjoy it. I'm glad to have been able to help motivate you guys to try it out.

Butchy, I agree about the fleet oiler, as well as an UNREP ship so that a decent dio of an under way replenishment could be done. Who knows, maybe someday someone will put one out.
