Academy 1/350 scale Bismarck Battleship
Posted by Hamming on Monday, August 15, 2005 8:01 AM
Hello everyone. First, I want to thank you all for the great pictures of what everyone is working on or done. Have learned a lot of good techniques from you all. I have just gotten back into modeling again after a thirty year absence.

I have a question about the Academy 1/350 Bismarck Battleship model. Has anyone built one and what type of kit is it? I mean, Good fits and if the detail is good? Do any figures come in the model?

Hope someone can help me. Again, thank you for all the great pictures of your in process and finished models. Tony ( Hamming )

I built the Missouri in the same series and found it to be reasonably well cast and scaled, with good fit and minimal cleanup before assemby. But it would benefit greatly with an aftermarket photo-etched detail set like the one offered by Gold Medal Models, especially for the radars, ladders, hatches and hoses. The OOB kit is very weak on the fine detail, but needs little or no modification to accepte the PED upgrade. You can also get PED crew sets from GMM. I think someone on this forum said they used 3-dimensional resin figures, but I don't know what manufacturer makes them in 1/350. Anyhoo ... I've seen examples of the Bismarck kit done and it is very impressive with a little extra effort.

(Ooopsie ... just re-read your post ... I built the Tamiya Mo' and you're talking Academy. All the same ... photo-etch sets make the big diff ......)
