A few months back I ordered a 4 CD set from Seaways publishins. It is all the copies of the now defunct Model Ship Builder magazine.this magazine was and is still my favorite of all the model ship mags. there was.
In the CD set there' and article on building the Heller 15th century Carrack Conquistador. by a gentleman by the name of James Powell. The article is in three parts but stops before he got to the yards and sails and finish rigging.Well I tried to find out why no further articles were done.Well to my dismay I found that Mr.Powell had passed away during the writting of the article.I thought this was the end of his writtings.
While searching the CD's I found another article by him. Written a year earlier. Its an 8 part article on the basic's of plastic sailing ship building. It goes over tools.adhsives, and other basic materials.Contained in the article is a step by step build of the Heller Nina'.It is terrific. He goes over rigging, painting, and the likes. He show's changes you should make to make the model more correct.
For me I think this is a must read for anyone into plastic sailing ships.
I understand Mr. Powell also wrote a book on building plastic ships.I have not been able to locate one yet.If any of you have any more info let me know.
