Hi Shipmates, well back from a few weeks in my home city.Which is fine if a little too full of armed policemen. Everybody carrying on as normal, despite the crazies efforts.Bought lots of new books Nelson and Trafalger also a very good one by N.A.M. RODGERS,called The Command Of the Ocean. The 2nd part of a massive complete history of British Naval Power from the Stone age to the 21st Century. This 2nd part deals with the period from 1649-1815 so it obviously covers some interesting episodes.900 pages, but an excellent read so far.Model wise,I haven't done Sci-Fi for a while as it is a subject hard to find here in Poland but after seeing a lot of web comments on the Polar lights NX-01 I couldn't resist.OH,it is a big kit and just screams to be lit up.Not my area but may be worth a try.I still have an old boxed set of lighting components somewhere, issued by Monogram I think a few years ago?????
I already had the Revell GOETHE and some N scale railway figures for it.It was a style of cruise ship often seen here on the Vistula during the 30's to the 50's,so a dio was in mind.I then saw the thread about the Lindberg Lighthouse and went looking....Eventually found one for about 10 dollars and what a kit.Great little model and a refreshing break from rivet counting. No hassles just build it.A working light as well :)) Time for the kid to kick in:) Of course I had to do some changes..Painted the red instead of decals, blanked of the windows, hid the switch with some foliage and replaced the thick railings with large P/E ships rails.
It's nice once in a while to just pull out a kit and go for it and forget the 20 reference books and web searches. It was also an antidote to my ongoing work for the Uprising museum which is all tanky things in dark colors(sorry treadheads) Nice to be back and lots of threads to catch up on.
I will of course be going back again in October for the Trafalger celebrations proper. I did pay my respects to the Admiral in St Pauls......
