USS Carl Vinson seen at Rhodos (Greek Island)
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 11:19 AM
Hi guys,

Here are some pics I'v taken when I was on holiday to Rhodos (Greek island) in July.
One day I was visiting an acropolis there, when I noticed a large ship at the horizon.
I hurried to the coast and saw a carrier. I saw a big 70 on it, and later I found out it was the USS Carl Vinson.
It was the first time in my life that I saw a carrier for real. What a HUGE thing !!!

Cheers,

Jürgen

Yes, they are big ships until you stand on the flight deck and realize someone is going to land a jet on it, then it seems small. At least that was my impression when I stood on the deck of the Enterprise

I can tell you they are really, really tiny when viewed from the air and you realize that in five minutes you will be on that flight deck. By the way, the Vinson is tied up here in Norfolk right now alongside the T. Roosevelt, Eisenhower, and the Truman. The Enterprise and Washington are across the river in Newport News.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.
