Dragon Randolph been released yet?????

Is anyone shipping or have on the shelves the USS Randolph by DML Dragon yet?

I REALLY want to get started on one and am getting anxious about seeing all the "coming soon" and "to be released" messages by suppliers.

I picked one up at a local hobby shop in Newport News, Virginia a couple of weeks ago. I think the Hungate's arts and crafts chain store here in Greenville also has it in stock. It's a beautiful kit. About my only criticism of it is that the photo-etched brass sheet doesn't contain guardrails; you really need an aftermarket set (e.g., the one from Gold Medal Models) to do the kit justice.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

Thanks guys, I called Trident this weekend and he had some in stock, I had an order with them earlier this summer but it seems the boat never came in.

Now to get busy and make some room on the workbench for it.

I'm hoping their new 1/330 scale Seawolf isn't far behind...

I've had mine long enough to install the enclosed hurricane bow, and angled flight deck. Very nice kit!

I got everything ready, patterns,RTV and resin for making Banshees and Panthers, PE sets for rails and communications, extra styrene, sheet brass and tube, a six pack of Molson, band aids; all I need now is the kit which I'm told should be at my door in a week + a few days.

BTW Pete, are you building your modernized version as the Randolph or of a another ship?

Hello Sumpter250,

I just purchased this kit for my father who served on this flat top during the Kennedy Administration.  As you probably know the kit comes with the straight deck and during his time of service, it has an angled.

After searching the forum, you made the comment that the same kit has the hurricane bow and the angled flight deck.  Are they both included?  I did not open the box should I want to return it.  If they are not included, do you know where I can find the deck and planes and copters for the period.  Thank you!

The kit is of the ship as it appeared in WW2.  We had to scratchbuild the hurricane bow and flightdeck, and also add additional sheet to the outer hull since the ships were widened when they were modernized for the period at which your father served.

Panda had hinted of a release of a modernized Essex many years ago but it never panned out.  At this date , there are no manufacturers that make a modernized Essex class carrier.

Skywave makes a good 1/700 set of A4s, F8's, AD's, and H53 copter.

Scott,

I apologize for not responding sooner.   Thank you so much for the information and I will give Skywave a look.
