1:72 Type IX U-Boat ---Would It Work ?

In the last few months, rumour has it that RoG was considering a US fleet boat
kit in 1:72 scale. That is would be a huge kit since US subs were much bigger
than German u-boats. So if a fleet boat were to be made available, why not a
Type IX at 41 inches. I would certainly appreciate it!
A 1:72 type IX would probably take up the same space, on a shelf, as 10-12
aircraft dispalyed side by side.

So seeing that the RoG type VII has had great success and look at all the
aftermarket stuff available for it, the thought of a type IX would be most
certainly welcome !!!
I certainly hope RoG or some other kit maker would serious consider the thought.

Combat Models make a type IXC and IXD in 72nd as well as s USN Fleet Boat and several others. Problem is they are vacuform kits and don't come with the extra details.
But if you can't wait for Revell to hopefully release these then...

As much as I like the U Boats- I'd hope for a fleet US Sub in a large scale first.

The best way to achieve your kit desires is to email RoG and tell them what you want. We also have the 2005 Most Wanted Kit survey coming up this fall.

Personally, I'd love to see a Gato and Type IX, not to mention a Type XXI, in 1/72.

Fleet boat.. A R/gr 1/72 US Fleet Boat would be the biggest seller Revell or any "Plastic" Mfgr. had.. The after market would be crazy with detail sets and Guppy conversions etc.. many foreign Navies operated Fleet boats and the interest in this subject would be international.. It's amazing that the only Plastic model of a USN Fleet boat is in an odd scale and is better than 40 years old.. The marketing guys at the big model companies are really dropping the ball on this subject anyway.

If ANY model company came out with a GOOD WWII US sub in 1/72, I'd be camping the hobby shop waiting for it. Did a lot of reading of late on US sub patrols in that time period. Fascinating stuff. (If we're REALLY lucky, maybe they'd make it as an accurate "cutaway" model too.... )

Why stop there? How about an I-400? Although the boats themselves were less than useful, one would certainly make for an interesting model at that scale.

An I-400!!!??!!! Outstanding! I'd start it right after the US Fleet Boat was completed. And the Fleet Boat would be completed as a Guppy IIA, with North Atlantic (Glass) sail.

I used to be in an RC yaghting club, and at one time there where a few member who worked together on a hull for a rather large type XXI I believe it was about 1.40 meter (sorry I don't know what that would be in feet and inches), anyway, the finished model looked great.
There is a German publicist (at least about 15 years ago) who published a booklet called "Type XXI von Orriginal zum Modell" (Type XXI from orrigian to model) it has lots of detailed pics in it as well as a list of what happened to each of the 115? ships that were made, but best of all, you could order the plans for it, not just plans to build a plain model, but the plans contained the complete interior of the boat, smaller reproductions of those plans where also in de book.
I have bought that book many years ago, and I'll see if I can find it again (you know what happens to stuff after moving a couple of times).

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I've always been a huge fan of the XXI and I would sure welcome a 1/71 model of it, best would be ofcourse with interior.
