1/350 Spruance class?
Posted by Daprophet on Wednesday, July 9, 2003 10:25 PM
I have found that there are two kits of this ship available from Minihobbies and Dragon. Any ideas on which one is the better kit?
I served on the USS O'Brien DD975 for 4 years and I would like to build that one specificly. I have not searched much yet but I don't think that hull number decals should be to hard to find for either of these kits.

Thanks

I have both the Dragon (DML) and the MiniHobbies (MHM) kit. 2 of the DML's and 1 MHM. The MHM is the motorized version. I've started it. The motorized kit has a 1 piece hull where the DML's are a 2 piece hull. The one piece hull says "Trumpeter 1997" inside the hull. Beyond that they are the same kit. Right down to decals and instruction sheets.

I haven't found any specific decals for your ship or mine (USS Stump DD-978 & USS Caron DD-970). I'm doing one of the Stump and 2 of the Caron. Gold Metal Models Makes a good decal sheet but it doesn't have any names for the stern. The kits hull numbers can be swapped around for my ships, but their isn't a 5 in on the sheet. All that comes with the kit are decals for the Spruance, Elliott, Peterson, & Ingersoll. I may have to use printer with blank decal sheet.

Just make sure that you get the right one (VLS or non-VLS).
