Here are four pictures of my Glencoe USS
Oregon. When hostilities began in the Spanish-american War,
Oregon steamed 14,000 miles around South America to get to Cuba and fight. After the war she was assigned to various Pacific posts and had an exemplary career. This kit was one of a stash handed down to me by my late grandfather.
I learned a lot with this one. Most of what I learned was patience, patience, patience. This one took me from January to August, because as I "relearned how to ride the bike" I had to do almost everything at least twice. There are probably two or three parts on her that just came off the sprue, got painted and got glued on. Everything else was screwed up in some way on the first try, or the second...or the third... But, I have to say I had a lot of fun, too. Extra thanks to my lovely wife for doing the labeling on the base.
I made this model for family friends Frank and Chris Munda. Frank is a Navy vet of the Vietnam era and they have sons, sons-in-law and (soon) grandsons who were or are willing to serve in harm’s way in our nation’s armed forces because of the Munda’s deep commitment to America’s founding values. Between their work for children and their family’s service to our nation in the military, they have proven that like the crew of the Oregon, they will “go the extra mile” for what they believe in. Frank took these photos and was tickled pink when I told him he got to keep it.
Hope you like looking at it as much as I liked building it.
