WW11 USN Sub colours (pacific and Atlantic
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, September 11, 2005 2:36 AM
I have just been conned into making the USS/m Lionfish given as a preasent to my 8yo grandson with the words "I'm sure Poppa will help you build it!"Censored [censored] Now the thing is just about ready for painting and I don't trust Revels painting instructions nor the box artwork.
Any helpers

This is a loaded question, There were several different finishs used depending on Dates, locations, or command. The safest finish to use is overall semi gloss Black. This is a finish that almost every fleet boat wore at one time or another during the war.
You can use Hull Red below the waterline but many Boats were finished in overall black. Tamiya's NATO Black is a good match.

Hull red was pre-war. Wartime was black below the water. For more information on the various camouflage schemes check at http://www.shipcamouflage.com/ for more information.

Thankyou for the replies, gents.
The little bloke is getting an all black sub with no markings!
He'd better not put it in the fish tank!

I just have to add that I am overjoyed by the fact that my daughters enjoy modelling. Of course, I don't expect to ever build one with a grandchild, since they aren't allowed to date until I am dead....

As much as i would like to support your dating policy think of the benffet of your daughter giving you a grandchild when she is old enough and happily married to a good man you pick out for her and Grandpa sits down with the grandchild teaching them how to build models. i can not wait until my son is old enough to join me
hes 5 months old and was watching me very intensly as i poored over instruction on a 1/350 ship

The key words are "that I pick out." Of course, any and all births will be by imaculate conception....No, seriously, as much as I dread them dating, and growing up, I know it is inevitable.

I have fun with them now when they help me, or I help them, on a model. My oldest daughter is torn between wanting to be a marine biologist and an aeronautical engineer. I think she picked up the engineer idea from my love of planes, and us building models together. She has a shelf full of planes in her room, mostly snap, but we have started working on more complex ones. Unfortunately, her mother suggested we try something along the lines of general aviation, so i got her an Accurate Miniatures Beech Bonanza. I am not sure if it isn't over my head in complexity...It is definitely over hers. From now on, I will let her stick to warbirds.

BTW, sorry for the thread hijack, everyone.
