How many aircraft of each type for USS Nimitz (1975)?

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6

Yes...that is correct. The Nimitz did not deploy with any A-4 squadrons during her 1975 Norlant deployment or her 1976 Med deployment.

By the way, the A-4 was heavily used as a carrier based attack aircraft during the Vietnam War. In fact, I think that was the aircraft that John McCain was flying when he was shot down.

Nobody's forgotten the Scooter, but they didn't serve aboard the Nimitz. In fact, by the Nimitz's time A-4 Skyhawks had disappeared from most flight decks. The A-7 Corsair replaced the A-4 on the big decks. There may have been some USMC front line squadrons of A-4s, in the mid-70s, I'd have to look it up, but the Skyhawks were mostly for training and Top Gun adversary units by then.

Thanks for the info. I am still trying to decide b/t Nimitz (1975) or modern USS Enterprise. That is why I posted the other topic question to find out which kit is a better kit (qaulity, accuracy, options, etc.....).

I'm not sure you'll want to do that many aircraft on the deck, but a good estimate would be two squadrons of F-4 Phantoms, 12 each. 1 squadron of A-6 'truders, with about 4 of those being tanker versions figure at least 12 of those. 2 Squadrons of A-7 Corsairs, again at about 10-12 each. 4-6 EA-6 Prowlers, 4 E-2 Hawkeyes, 4-6 S-3 Vikings and 4 SH-3 Seaking helos. In '75, I believe CVW 8 was still using RA-5C Viggies, and I believe there should be 4 of those.

I'm not sure of the exact number of birds each squadron deployed in those days, but counting that some would be on the hanger bay, etc., study some photos and see how many appear on the deck at a given time.

How many aircraft of each type for USS Nimitz (1975)?

How many aircraft for the Nimitz (1975) version (F-4s, A-7s, A-6s, etc.....) are required to complete a full airwing? What is the total count and how many of each type? How many Helis? Thank you
