Hocking, White Ensign (WEM) are great, but there are alternatives. (I was afraid of buying too little and being hit with multiple shipping costs). So I bought one tin of WEM hellgrau and 2 diff Dunkelgraus, then tried to match by mixing various Humbrol colors. I had great results with my tests and have formulas to match WEM. Details here: http://www.rocketcopy.biz/models/uboat/paint.shtml.

I'm just starting construction but am getting prepared. Good luck.

Hey Hocking!!
I think that you will find the folks at White Ensign are very responsive,
perhaps even faster than some domestic dealers, despite the ocean
between....They also offer some other neat bits for the VIIc -Give 'em
a try.

Mike

Thanks for the great website links. Since I will be modeling the early version of U-552, it appears as if I will be painting the upper hull Helegrau 50, and the lower hull Schiffsbodenfarbe III Grau.

The only company that I can find that makes these two colors, and other Kriegsmarine colors, is White Ensign Models. Where can I find a USA store or website to buy these paint colors at. The White Ensign Models paints are fine. I just want to order from somewhere in the USA so I can get the paint quicker.

Thanks.

Hi Hocking,

The link below should be what you are looking for. It not only gives the Model Master equivalent to the Revell color but also the equivalent to a lot of other popular brands of paints.

Happy building and be sure to post some pictures.......one of these days, I hope to also start my VIIC which now currently resides on my shelf with about 10 other unstarted kits.

Need help choosing Testor's Model Master Enamels for Revell VIIC 1:72 Uboat.

I am working on my first model since I was a kid. The model is Revell's 1:72 scale VII-C Uboat. I am currently awaiting the arrival of my new HP-CS Iwata airbrush, and don't worry, I am going to practice quite a bit with it before I paint this model. Anyway, I am now ready to go buy the paint for this project.

I am having trouble determining which enamel paints to use from the Testor's Model Masters series of paints. As you know, the kit directions tell you what "Revell" paints are necessary for each part. What is the best way to determine the closest equivalent to these Revell colors in the Model Master enamel series of paints?

My biggest concern is choosing the appropriate deck, upper hull, and lower hull colors. Everything else isnt as important. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
