Jesse,
I suppose my wording could have been taken ambiguously. When I was referring to the foretop and the maintop being at the same height, I was referring to the bases of those structures where they connect to their respective tripod masts rather than the overall height at the top of the structure. I certainly can appreciate the effect of photographic exaggeration on the relative heights of the masts. I have no doubts that Revell's pattern maker's were confused by a photograph's perespective when they made the main mast of their 1/720 Arizon significantly higher than the foremast.

Andy

P.S. By the way, whether or not your Arizona's maintop is higher than the foretop, that's nonetheless a really fine build of the ship.

I'm sorry Abarne, I think you are wrong about the height of the masts. I checked some pictures on the net and they show the aft mast higher then the forward mast. I have some scale drawings at home and I'll check them.

Jesse

Edit: Ok, I went home and checked my resource (Battleship Arizona) and it seems that we are both right and both wrong. The circle structure on top of both masts is the Main Battery Gun Director. The Gun Directors are at the same height. On top of the Main Battery Gun Director on the aft mast is the Sky Machine Gun Platform. This platform raises the overall height of the aft mast by 9 feet.

I checked my model to see if the model is accurate. It is. I will say that the picture I took exaggerates the heights of the masts.

In addition to Jesse's sources, check out the paper-card model of USS Arizona from the link below.
http://www.digitalnavy.com/html/ships.html

The detail and accuracy is extraordinary. The designed of that card model picked up a numerous bits of esoterica that the plastic ships of her fail to capture. Two major points would be the 5" secondary guns in the deck house and the waterline height.

As presented in the model, one would think the the 5" guns are contained within cylincrical turrets. In fact they are open mounts that use either canvas curtains or metal shields to keep out the weather when the guns are stowed.

The Trumpeteer waterline is way too low as well.

Another point, is that the foretop and the maintop should be at the same height. From Jesse's photo of his Arizona, it "appears" that Trumpeteer has the top of the aft tripod higher than the top of the fore tripod, whears both heights should be the same.

God luck on her.

Here are some books and videos I used:
The books where:

I would recommend, above all others, the Battleship Arizona book. Any questions, feel free to ask.
