Wow.

My Parents had 2 feet of water in the house before and I thought it was bad.

I cant imagine how I would feel.

What do you need to get back on your feet?

Jake,just went through all the pics you posted and what can I say.That must be just utterly devastating....All the work and skill expended on the models and restorations.thats even before you consider your home and possessions. I was wondering about the chebec we both got from Millard but compared to your home it is small potatoes. I wish you all the very very best man.
Here in Europe we are mercifully free from such devastation most of the time.Though the floods are getting more frequent in recent years.

i got a suggestion, GET A SUBMARINE!!!!! might help, fit a camera and forget the mop...!!!! sorry to hear about whats happened, it must be bloody heartbreaking!!

Millard,

The mold on the walls will be delt with by removing ALL the sheetrock and having it replaced after treating the 2x4's with an agent and pressure cleaning the floors with a bleach. All the electrical wiring and boxes will need to be brought up to the new code (circuit breakers) and I'll probally all a few nicer things that we wanted, such as recessed spot lights in the front eves, track lighting in the living room and the such.

New bathroom and kit cabinets, counter top etc. I'm not going to fix up the work shop other than the walls paint the floor, I won't be living there, it will just be storage space.

The small shed onthe side will be removed as well as the pool deck and pool.
I plan on renting the house out if possible.

I'll try to post some pictures of the new house in the next few weeks.

Jake - I feel for ya.. although nothing compared to Katrina and the flooding, Rita came through here and put a tree down on my modeling room... so far there's been no rain since, so everything is safe.. I've got my unbuilt stash relocated and finished models as well... the worst that would happen is my in progress kits would suffer...

talk about irony, two hurricanes, 300+ miles apart, two modeling rooms.....

I just remembered your posts just prior to Katrina... glad you came out alive... my relatives are from Metairie and were staying with me then, they just now got back in their house.. no huge damage to them, but a lot of businesses that way got mauled by the winds... seems the canal train tracks acted like a dam of sorts for them... glad to hear you are safe!!!

Yes I have insurance, but not enough. 20K on contents, 50K on structure, 20K for displacement. Because the damage is so extensive, I am buying a house north of Lake Pontchartrain and will fix this one up to rent out in about 2 years.

The plastic models can be saved, the 5 nice wooden one are probally trash. Paint's OK all the tools are history. The new house had a double car garage that I can convert to the workshop in about 6 months.

Could be worse though,!

Uuuhhh Man ! That is absolutely HEARTBREAKING ! You and so many others
in your sitaution. Are you covered by insurance? Is any of it salvagable?

Thats pretty bad I see the mold has taken over on the walls.What your plans ?
