If CMK get involved, like they did with the Uboat, it could make for a very detailed and expensive model.

I am SO excited. It will be an enormous amount of work, even if they get it right, but this is amazing and wonderful!

From the SubCommittee scuttlebutt, http://www.subcommittee.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?s=085afde4d195e4036abe74463bbc47c9 , it looks like Revell is researching the USS COBIA in Manitowoc, WI. Manitowoc is about a 2.5 hour drive from Revell's headquarters in Northbrook, IL. Look for "Revell 1/72 Gato!!!" in the Static Modeler discussion.

Cool, but considering I haven't gotten around to buying/building the 1/72 Uboat yet I better get busy. Ahhh, so little time to do the things you want. Propeller [8-]

hmmm... I'd pay that much for it if there was a kit to convert it to an SSK out there eventually... I've been wanting to do the USS Cavalla in its present config for a long time but scratchbuilding on my first sub would be a disaster I would think...

And would anyone care to bet it'll be more than $100 MSRP? Oh well, back to the stash

And CG Bob - welcome to the forum - hope you enjoy it here

An update posted on SteelNavy indicates that it will not be available until the third quarter of 2006.

That gives a year to gripe about the level of detail and the fact that they didn't choose to do our favorite boat or it has the Portsmouth limber hole pattern as opposed to the Electric Boat pattern

Revell 1:72 scale GATO
Posted by CG Bob on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 1:13 PM
It appears that Revell will be releasing the GATO in 1:72 scale, from the SubCommittee message boards: http://www.subcommittee.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?s=085afde4d195e4036abe74463bbc47c9;act=ST;f=6;t=3919 . The discussion is under "Static Modeler". It'll be a big model, almost 52" long and 5" beam.
