The Revell kit is the PitRoad kit.

Revell obtained (bought or leased?) the molds from PitRoad and produced the kit under their label. Its a common practice

One more question. I have a choice of either a Revell 1/700 USS Independeencec or a Dragon 1/700 USS Princeton.
Which of these would you all consider to be the better choice since they are both the proper base for my model?

Thanks again.

Keep an eye on L'Arsenal of France.

http://www.larsenal.com/

IIRC, they have a CVL in the works - to be named Bois Belleau (or Belleau Wood in French). Their French aircraft carrier Bearn is excellent. It is resin and styrene.

Below is a series of photos of a 1:350 scale scratch-built Bois Belleau by Pierre Marchall - an associate of Jacques Druel of L'Arsenal

Thanks for all the help. I guess I will be searching for a model for a while as I have not found anyone with an in-stock item.

Thanks again. Smile [:)]

These were originally released by Skywave - ocassionally you can find the Belleau Wood in a Skywave box. Revell of Germany re-released these under their name as well as Dragon. IIRC, one of them came with a full hull option.

Not sure how much experience you have with photo-etch, but Gold Medal Models makes a light/escort carrier set that includes both early and late-war masts for the Independence class, so you can build just about any ship from the kit .

It builds into a decent model out of the box, but it does have some fit problems, especially when you try and attach the hangar walls to the hull. At least that's the problem I ran into.

This was an Independence class CVL. It was issued in 1/700 scale as the USS Princeton by both Dragon and by Revell with some add-ons like the lower hull. There has been talk that Dragon may be doing another run of them. You can see information on this at the Trident Hobbies site http://www.tridenthobbies.com

Hey everbody. Just getting back into modeling after a long spell away. I am interested in trying to build a model of this WWII light carrier. I don't expect to find the exact model, but was wondering if someone could point me towards a model that could be used as a base. Scale is not too much of a concern.

This is the ship my dad served on and I thought it would make a mice display piece along with some items he left me.

Thanks for any and all help.
