Just be aware that the conning towers offered by dream-arts are 1:40 scale.
They are sold as optional towers for the Robbe RC u-boat in the same
scale.

Hey I appreciate it man. From the looks of it there's too much body work for me to consider doing the modification to my VIIC. Not only are there minor differences in the conning tower, there's also a fairly major difference in the hull design. Oh well, I might just have to order the VIIB model they're offering and work on it seperately. Thanks for the help.

Here you will find images of the different variants of the type VII conning towers.
These images are excellent reference for the towers although that L shaped
duct you see on the B tower should be on the starboard side, according to my
references. Also there seems to be a ventilation duct which was attached to the
rear of the attack periscope housing, that is missing.
You can see a close up of this duct in a photo in the Squadron: U-boats in action.

Also have a look at photos of the Amati 1:72 U47 and compare.

what's the difference between a VIIB and C? can it be modified from a 1/72 Revell VIIC?

Rex is correct, U-48 is the most sucessful boat, however, Krestchmer was the most successful sub commander of WW2.

The title of best sub commander goes to Lothar von Arnauld de la Perière, who, with more than 10 war patrols in U-35 and U-139, sank more than 400,000 tons of shipping in World War One.

According to uboat.net, the most successful U-Boat was U-48, with 12 patrols, 51 ships sunk (306.875 tons) and 3 ships damaged (20.480 tons)... this boat had several commanders throughout its career though.

Kretschmer was the most successful commander, with 16 patrols, 46 ships sunk (272.958 tons) and 5 ships damaged (37.965 tons)...

Note: waships are not included in those figures.

The most successful u-boat of WWII, even though it had a short career, was
Otto Kretschmer's U99, a Type VII-B .

U-99 career 4.10.39 to 17.3.41 sinkings 43 tonnage 263.228

Kptlt. Georg Lassen - 26 ships sunk (156.082 tons) and 5 ships damaged (34.419 tons) in only 4 Patrols....

Kptlt. Lothar von Arnauld de la Perrière, 194 ships sunk, 450,000 tons!!!!!
