Scratchbuilt Orca
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, October 16, 2005 12:57 PM
Some time ago, back when the movie "Jaws' came out. It inspired me so much, I had to have something. I watched the movie 16 times that summer, and would run home after each movie and build alittle more. The end result turned out to be a replica of Capt. Quint's boat the "Orca" in about 1/60 scale,
i'm not really sure. Its been sitting around on my parents book shelf for 25 years, and came back home to me now for about the last 5. Its still ship shape after all these years Not bad for my very first scratch build at 16 yrs old.

"Not bad" is the understatement of the century. Any 16-year-old who can do that on the sole basis of watching a movie is a born ship modeler.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

I don't think you need a bigger boat. I was rivited by the talk about the indianapolis. First ship I heard about relating to IN.

Great looking first attempt there with a REALLY nice crafted old Americana look to it. You very well could have THE first Orca mini ever made.

I'm going to feature your photos on our 'ORCA' related forum if you don't mind. Thanks for sharing from your archives. I'm always on the lookout for ANYTHING related to this film and of course ORCA.Pirate [oX)]

While you've saved that fine scale miniature unfortunately the boat it was based on was not. Universal saw fit to lose it sometime in 96. For more about that and everything ORCA, feel free to stop by:
