30cm scale is box scale - the finished models are 30cm long. Not concistently scaled.

These things are extermemely rough. Be prepared to expend a lot of effort to make them presentable.

Perhaps the best that can be done with them is to take them down to the pond and plink away with a .22 rifle.

They have the nickname Zheng dog poo (for what it worth)

i know 30cm is box scale but These particular ships work out to be Approx. 350 scale so maybe i can use 350 scale p/e rails and stuff to make it look at least ok

My 2 cents worth,,, Go for it. Go price.

Accurate: who cares.  Have fun.  As for the Chinese Models,  All brands started off this way. In a few years they might be worth somthing, As for now, Enjoy building them. Almost every plastic model is not exaxt. don't let others discourage you.

enjoy,

I can work out the scale of the ships if you name them.

For instance:

1. A PLAN Type 051 Luda DDG is 132 meters long. A 30cm long model would be 1:440.
2. A PLAN Type 052 Luhai DDG is 153 meters long. A 30cm long model would be 1:510.
3. A Russian Sovremenny DDG is 156 meters long. A 30cm long model would be 1:520.
4. A USN Ticonderoga CG is 172 meters long. A 30cm long model would be 1:576.
5. A USN Nimitz CVN is 330 meters long. A 30cm long model would be 1:1100.

Results: Most differences in scale are small unless the ship being modeled is very big.

At:                     1/500              1/700
1 Luda               26.4cm            18.8cm
2 Luhai              30.6cm            21.8cm
3 Sovremenny   31.2cm            22.3cm
4 Ticonderoga   34.4cm            24.6cm
5 Nimitz            66.0cm            47.1cm

My 2 cents [2c]

Russian (ex-Soviet Union)
Project 1155 Destroyer (NATO: Udaloy) is 163 meters long,

30cm = 1:543.3 scale;
1/500 = 32.6cm;
1/700 = 23.3cm.

PLAN Type-57 FFG "Jiangwei" is 115 meters long: 30cm = 1:383.3 scale
1/500 = 23cm;
1/700 = 16.43cm.

PLAN Type-53 FFG"Jianghu" is 103 meters long: 30cm = 1:343.3 scale
1/500 = 20.6cm;
1/700 = 14.71cm.

Box scale is old school. It matters about the mind set of the builder. If your not building a scale collection its fine. I have a large collection of 1/700 - 1/720 ships; however I build ships from any scale. I keep my two collections seperate. Larger scales have more detail and  you can take more time to build them and add more detail more easily.
