AE2 - 1914 British E-Class submarine
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, November 5, 2005 5:25 PM
Does anyone know of any resin garage-kitmaker who may have created a British 1914 E-Class submarine kit? I am keen on making a model of the AE2, the Australian WW1 submarine that historically travelled submerged up the Dardanelles on the first day of the Gallipoli campaign, into the Sea of Marmora, with the classic orders to "run amok" and cause havoc to the enemy.

A brief outline of the story and a couple of photos are here.

I just need an E-Class hull body - in any scale - and I can scratch-build the details.
Any assistance appreciated.

There is a resin kit of the AE-2 put out by an Australian Company at a cost of about $A30.00. I will try to find the name and address for you.
The wreckage of the sub was found reciently but her sister AE-1, lost of Raboul, has never been found.

I would be interested in that as well. I would like to add another "Barrow-Built" to my collection. Judging by the price it is probably a small kit.

I sent an email off late Friday and I would expect a reply on Monday or Tuesday from the maker as to cost and availability.

After several attempts i am still unable to obtain any info on the producer of this kit.

However I will swallow my pride and purchase a copy of Australian ModelArt and if all else fails get in contact with the editor and see what I can find out about the AE boat.
