Want KIT--BAD

Sterling went out of business in the late 70's or early 80's. You're best bet would be looking at e-bay, or putting a notice on the various model boat boards.

Finding one of those old Sterling kits is going to be tough. If your primary interest is the subject matter, though, you're in luck. Model Shipways now makes a pretty sophisticated scale model of the Emma C. Berry. I haven't seen the kit first- hand, but on the basis of the manufacturer's pictures and descriptions it appears to be excellent. It's one of the few genuine plank-on-frame (as opposed to plank-on-bulkhead) kits in existence.

It's available through Model Expo ( www.modelexpoonline.com ).

The Sterling kit of the EMMA C. BERRY was based on her re-rig as a schooner. The Model Expo kit is based on her original sloop rig.

If you can deal with the smaller scale I recommend the Model Expo "Emma C. Berry" kit. I built it about two years ago and enjoyed doing it. Ben lankford did a great job on the plans and instructions.

Chuck, That exact kit is listed for sale cheap on E-bay this week as item# 6013561001. I would look there before it is sold and you spend another 35 years looking for it.

You resurect a 5-year old post from a guy who has posted only once?   I doubt if he's checking back regularly looking for the kit

I have a complete Sterling Model Emma C. Berry kit, still in it's box that's been sitting in storage for about 30 years.  Are you still interested in purchasing one? 

If someone wants a specific item and someone else has it, I would not call it selling on the forum.

Yes, I've seen on this forum many times where someone is looking for something, and someone else has it, and they get together using PMs to work out whatever deal they want.  But to post something as available almost 5 years after the last previous post is stretching it a bit.  I don't think the poster in question noticed the dates on the original thread. 

What amazes me is the post, a month after EdGrune responded to the previous poster that this thread was five years old, that he has one available also!  Did he not notice the date after it had been specifically mentioned, or did he really think the OP would still be interested after the post almost five years ago that said one was on eBay, that the OP probably bought.  Oh well, life goes on!

Generally we don't look at date and time of post, we look at the content of the thread. I didn't notice that this is a 5-years-old thread, until I read EdGrune's comments. He must be a detective or surveillance officer by profession with very keen eyes. The sale offers are 5 years too late, I don't think any deal will be made any time soon.
