PE for Revell Type VII C U boat
Posted by Bismark on Saturday, November 5, 2005 9:18 PM
Hi boat guys, Ihave the perfect spot on a bookcase for the 3 foot long Revell VIIc Uboat and having never built a u boat before, do you know if this kit requires a PE set? Any experience with this kit? This is my first foray into the ship (and boat) building world so any input would be helpful. Thanks guys.

Howdy Bismark9...there are a ton of great aftermarket kits and 3 major PE sets. I have seen some nice out-of-the-box builds, but this is a sweet model, go for the goodies I say. I've just started building mine, head over to my site for a list of major accessories and helpful (hopefully) sources. There are also links to a handful or so of finished boats by various people.

Good hunting.

I built this kit in January - February.  I used the Brass models PE set, and quite honestly wished I hadn't.  It really did not enhance the original kit that much, and with all the drilling and cutting and the adding sheet styrene so you couldn't look through, I wish I had just built it OOB and enjoyed building it.  This kit has so many after market parts that you probably would only need to buy a hull to build one.  So  you decide how far you want to go with it.  The kit is really quite an excellent OOB canidate.

Very impressive work Edgar! You have made brass railings, something I'm hoping to do. Great pictures, really nice work!

I just finished this kit using the White Ensign Models PE set. Much of this set however is radar antennae and equipment which won't be used if you're modeling an early U-boat. I can highly

recommend the wood deck by Nautilus Models; it looks fantastic when done.
