What model would you build?

What model would you build? Say if you had an unlimited amout of money what would you build, what kind of aftermarket parts. GMM,WEM,Toms Model Works, what kind of kit would you build any scale any price, Remember money is not an object in this subject, this is just an idea of what you, my fellow modelers would do if you had money to burn and alot of it. Lets see what you can come up with. And that iclude Dios and everything.

I would get matching funds from the City and possible the State, and build a Maritime Museum that could permanently house the  exhibits currently displayed on board the "Portland Steamer". The Facilities would include a wooden boat workshop for full size and model ships, and river access, and a pond that coud be used for RC ship display year around.

I, would have to say that since money is not important(wish that was true) I would build all of TAM, brand 1/350 scale battle ships, with WEM, PE parts, I am not a PE expert but since I have had help on this forum and have been put in the right direction with this PE thing ,I can see for my self that they have more to offer a modeler. Now with this all said I would have to move on to the trumpeter brand, at the same scale and build all of there carriers, then there battleships. But if I had but to choose only one ship to build it would have to be the TAM. JAPANESE MUSASHI, with WEM PE sets. Thanks.LEB68.

For me id have to say all Tamiya kits since i havent built any of there kits as of yet. Id buy double of each kit and that goes for the after market stuff to one of each, and is have to get the 1/72 scale revell german sub and all the goodies for it inerior and exterior and that new gato class they have coming out. then id build one big dio for the difrent eara ships ww2 korea etc and put some on a big ocean dio, now that would be cool add light and everthing.

I'd find the last of the all-gun Gearings (yes ... a real one) and have a shipyard restore it to Korean War specs (undo the FRAM) and put it on display at the Bremerton Naval Museum alongside the USS Turner Joy.  There are several in foreign navies that can be had for a song, like the So. Korean Navy, Taiwan Navy or Turkish Navy.  One of my Dad's old ships is rotting at the pier in Iran and is still in very early configuration.  Remember ... money is no option and, since it's strictly for display, I'mcalling it a 1:1 scale model.

I'd go for a 1/32 scale USS Constitution or USCGC Eagle, at 10+ feet overall lengths, with full radio control and a custom trailer to haul it to the lake.....

Boy seems like everyone likes the BIG boats. How about a 1/32 scale Gato class sub with working pariscope and radio controled torrpedos.

I once saw a model of the bismarck scale 1/50, and that one looks very appalling (if the money and the space weren't a problem).  Otherwise in almost the same scale a Kirov-class cruiser.

I'mcalling it a 1:1 scale model.

There's some legitimacy in that, given some of what BATFE requires for the 20mm's & 40mm's that are jsut for display.  I know some of the people who were part of the last refit on BB-36 USS Texas.  (I still want to know what they did with the 1.1's they took off; and the Kingfishers, too, FTM <g>)

The 77' Elco project alongside Texas actually is more of a modeling project than anything else.  The boat was down to frames and 60-65% of the main deck, and every thing else was having to be restored.

Now, money & time no object, that'd be easy (the choice <g>).

I really, honestly, I mean it, would get started on a 1/96 DD-554 USS Boyd.  This was my dad's old ship, so it has meaning, and I have an eye-witness to fill in some details, too.  I've even got the AFD plans of the Boyd (they just need to be sent off to an offshore scan-to-cad shop to be refurbished a bit--but hey, this is a price is no object supposition<g>).

I'd likely tour around the local museums to see what they want/need for some scaled ship dios.  I know the GHWB Museum would like a carrier task force diorama, circa 44-45; they just don't have a handle on space v. cost (they really would like a 1/700 donated, I'm thinking, and might--just "might"--would buy a 1/1200).  The Nimitz museum in Fredricksburg would love to have a scale "typical" TF to display; I know they'd really be happy with a scale CBG (with CVN-68, 'natch as the centerpiece) dio.  Which would be cool to do, too, as the aircraft search radii could then have a larger scale a/c closer to the viewers (wouldn't that 1/32 A-7D look cool, "dirtied" up, hook down, on final ?)

The USS Kidd museum just over to Red Stick could stand some work, too.  Be fun to be able to traipse about, putting things together with some organization and purpose.

Oh, and I'd just have to find a way to knock together all of my "rides."  PBR Mk II, LCM-4, LCVP, not so hard.  LCCB/LCP(L) a bit more work; likewise LCM-5 & ATC get to be some work.  "County" class LST would be doable, as would USS Anchorage.  The trickier part would be in not getting carried away and diorama-ing up stuff.  Why build just the one PBR, when three make a proper "Ron" ? <g>

Hmm, would need an unlimited budget, I imagine--as I'd need a dedicated room for jsut building half of what I'd want.  Then, I'd need a storage building for all the "stuff," before, during & after . . .
