The Pittsburgh was brought our IPMS meeting last Sunday  It looked nice, with your choice of whole hull or waterline.  However, there were several problems noted with it.    The 40mm guns wers all cast short.  They will all need to be replaced with some Skywave sets.   The 20mms look better than the Skywave offerings, but still too tall and clunky.  They may be at the limits of the current state of the art of injection molding - and may need to be replaced with PE (my personal favorite 20mms are from Gold Medal).  The 8-inch gun turrets are molded with a central core to which side detail appliques are added.  This results in a nasty seam around the top and front edges of the turret.  It also affects the gun barrel spacing (i.e. they are too close together)

New Trumpeter Heavy Cruiser Kits
Posted by kp80 on Thursday, November 17, 2005 6:42 AM
Has anyone out there built either of the new Trumpeter heavy cruiser kits, Baltimore or Pittsburgh?  I understand they just came out, and was hoping to find a workbench review of some sort.  My dad was on the CA-74, Columbus,  in WWII, and I'm thinking of building it for him.  Any comments on these kits welcomed!
