You and the other participants in this project have my most enthusiastic best wishes.  I have too many other irons in the fire to take part myself, but I wish you the best of luck.  If I can help out at all in the way of books or other references I'll be more than happy to do so - though I suspect you know more about this ship than I do.  (Maybe you can get a definitive answer to that old question about the Victory's entry ports.)

Though it may be presumptuous of me to speak for the management, I do want to correct one point.  Your skills as a webmeister are formidable; this project may well be so complex that a forum like this one can't accommodate it adequately.  But Finescale Modeler is NOT pure plastic.  It's certainly true that the majority of the models that appear in it are based on plastic kits, but by no means all of them are.  There have been quite a few articles (both in the monthly issues and the annuals) on wood ships, including some by widely respected modelers.  (August Crabtree and Peter Spier have featured prominently.)  We've had some good, lively discussions about wood ship kits here in the Forum.  And there have been plenty of features on models (cars, aircraft, figures, etc.) made of resin, metal, and probably some materials I've forgotten.  My impression (if I'm wrong, maybe Jeff Herne can correct me) is that the biggest reason for the relative scarcity of articles on wood ship models is that people haven't submitted them.  The magazine can only publish what people send it.

Frankly, this lack of discrimination is one of the biggest reasons why I take part in this forum (and left the one at Drydock Models).  I firmly believe that modelers who work in all materials and media have a great deal to learn from each other - and I don't believe in condemning certain materials as "illegitimate" or "second rate."  I don't think of myself as a plastic modeler, or a wood modeler.  I think of myself as a ship modeler. 

Anyway - good luck on the group build. 

WOW!  What kind of time line are we talking here?  A few years  I have a few kits hanging around.  One of my 1st raters was started in Ocotber of 1992, and I still need to finish the standing rigging on it.

As far a doing another site, I have to say that FSM does cater to ALL mediums of model making.  That is why I too like it here.  I use wood, plastic, metal, cardboard, clay, plaster, and anything else that does the job in my models.  If they allowed "plastic" only, then there wouldn't be many ship modelers who could join.

Almost all of my Heller and Lindberg kits have wooden spars and masts.  A lot of modelers replace decks and fittings with wood and metal.

Kudos and taking the intitative to set up a GB.  It takes a lot of time a perseverence.

Well, not sure what I can offer, but I'll likely be a regular,lol

Started my 1/100 Hella(sheer bloody hell, more like) back in July, and it's slow going, trying to do it right is bind,lol.

I do feel that this forum, despite being ruined by the owners is the best place for this, the level of expertise and depth of knowledge, will be very handy, as it already has(Thanks JT ;) )

I have a website covering all aspects of scale modeling, forums included.  It's kind of stagnant right now, and it is currently hosted on a free service but I hope to change that come January or February.  I'm planning on a slight redesign, different navigation and maybe some new pages.  I would be happy to host anything for anyone on there, as long as it is not for profit and is scale related.  The website and forums are open to any modeling subject and any materials you wish to use.  I have a forum moderator besides myself and will be looking for more.  I am not looking to steal members from other sites or forums but I am not allowed to mention my site in any way or even host pictures there for the purpose of Scale Auto, because it is seen as competition.  Beats me why, it is stated irght up front that I am not wanting to compete, only to augment all other modeling sites out there.  Basically my idea behind it is by modelers for modelers.  Period.  If the site needs to adapt or even change completely to fit modelers needs then so be it.  Anyway if you want to check it out head on over to http://fantacmet.tripod.com The name of the site is in scale.  Unfortunately inscale.com is up for sale for over a thousand same with inscale.org and .net which is absolutely rediculous.  I thought practices like that were illegal.  I will find a domain though, and soon.  Only thing I am lacking is money.  I can get space for like 7 bucks a month with a great uptime.  No setup fees or anything(nice to have friends who own servers).  I can probably get it for as low as 5 a month.  Just a matter of me finding some income, I'm a student right now.  Anyways like I said I would be more then happy to host it for you.  You can get me at redneck_chevy_psychopath @ yahoo.com  that is not a link I spaced it out to keep the scrubber bots from adding it to junk mail lists.
