Actually, any neutral grays won't even be in the ballpark: the USN's camouflage blue-grays during WW2 were purple-blues, and were nowhere near neutral.

Cheers,

I just usually go by what seems the closest match to the color I want. Tamiya's dark Gray is pretty close to the dark grays used by the Navy while Tamiya's Neutral Gray could be close to Haze Gray.

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6

Not Haze Gray,  rather it is 5-L Light Gray.

The steel decks were painted 5-D, not deck gray.    The wooden decks were bright teak.

The Model Master paints to which Abram refers are in the Acryl II Marine line of paints.    The White Ensign colors are enamels.

Thses colors do not have a corresponding Fed-Std number.

I got the same kit and painted it Tamiya German Gray overall and painted the masts Flat White.

In Ms-1 the whole ship was painted in 5-D up to the tops of the smoke stack, everything above the smokestack was 5-H and all steel decks were deck grey and wood decks remained unpainted.  If you want the prewar scheme the whole ship was painted in #5 Standard Grey and all steel decks were deck grey and wood decks remained unpainted.

I hope this helps some.

I agree i purchased the same kit and bought the toms model works set is perfict for first time PE and it also has the paint color in the instructions i bought all tamiya paints for mine but for the money the toms set will do fine.

Arizona paint questions

I just picked up the Trumpeter 1/350 Arizona Friday at HL half off sale. Can somebody tell me what paints are suggested for this as the instructions are quite vague in this regard. Any particular manufacturer of the shades I need? What are the numbers of said paints? I'm looking forward to this as I haven't touched a ship model in about 20 years. I looked at the Toms Modelworks etched brass for this kit (Arizona detail set TW3528 and Arizona Boat & Racking detail set TW3529) are they worth the price? Thanks all for your help. I won't be able to respond to this before Saturday, So take your time.
