Do you build the same ship more than once?

Since we have such a big selection in the plastic sailing ship hobby (sarcasim), I have built the Cuttysark and Constititution a couple of times.  Each time, I work on new techniques and do some experimenting. 

Two kits that I want to build again are by Revell, the Alabama and the America since they go together so well.

A few Mayflowers, Santa Marias, Spanish Galleons, and Thermopoleas can be added to the list too.  I might add all the Heller kits that I have built that have different names but all have the same parts.

I am also interested in post war Essex Class carriers, so I've built a few of Revell's Lexington and have done a few conversions with 1/700 Hasagawa Essex models.

Yes, but only because the first time I didn't get it right because I didn't know what I was doing when I set out to build a 1/700 Victory ship to replicate the one my Dad served on in WW II ... not knowing that late in the war, a lot of the armament had been deleted and there were other subtle changes.

So after finding that out, AND getting to cruise on the S.S. American Victory in Tampa, Fl.(where I was able to take a ton of reference photos and ask Dad LOTS of "innocent" questions), I set out to recreate the S.S. LaCrosse Victory as faithfully as I could for mid-1945, based on 60-year-old memories and lots of help from this forum. It was weird to be building the same model again, right after finishing the first one, but the second one went a lot smoother because I didn't make as many stupid construction mistakes - made stupid painting mistakes instead  . But after two Victory ships and an 1/700 Olivery Hazard Perry frigate, I switched to something bigger, a 1/72 B-25 Doolittle Raider.

  You bet...I've lost count of the PT 103 series, and the Revell S-100 class boats...dozens?  My current favourite multiple is the PT 815 distributed by Trumpeter , about six of those.  Sailing wise, the Heller Viking ship appears around the house frequently, but I only have one Constitution. Once was enough !

I threw out my Matchbox 1/720 USS Indianapolis when the Tamiya 1/700 USS Indianapolis was introduced.

3 hipper class cruisers, 3 iowa battleships & 2 tarawa assault ships. never mind 6+ scratch built destroyers.

Heller 1/100th HMS Victory.......errr no thank you

When I was growing up I built the same kits over and over.  I'd like to think the Revell Victory and the Monogram TBF that I built when I was sixteen were better than the ones I built when I was twelve - but I wouldn't bet on it. 

Nowadays I guess I don't do much of that sort of thing; there are so many beautiful models waiting to be built, and we all have so little time allotted us on the Orb.  But at the moment I'm being strongly tempted.  A few months ago I acquired an old Revell Golden Hind, which I hadn't seen since I was in high school.  It's a remarkable kit; I think it's going to be my next project.

Tamiya Missouri, Lindberg Bismarck, SSN Nautilus, Revell Arizona, Revell S-Boat, Cutty Sark, Glencoe WWI Subchaser, Arleigh Burke ...... and counting.

Like Scott I've build the Revell  1/96 Constitution & Cutty Sark a couple of times. also The Imai Spanish Galleon Twice.Right now I'm doing a Imai Santa Maria kit for the second time. Usally when I re-do a kit I'm doing a different version or a color change.When you do a kit over I find you can correct mistakes from the first build also you've picked up new ideas  to try out from forums like this.

I built two Tamiya Wisconsins at the same time. One kit was spare parts in case the other kit I built on comission needed it. And no, I'm not a professional builder, by "comission" I mean someone paid me to build that ship. I indeed got a similar offer on the Heller Victory I'm putting together now, but with how much it took simply finishing the galleries and the guns I don't know if I could survive another round of that tedium simply for money. Building for myself is a far better motivator, at least it is for me. Now if someone were to offer me $1M to build another Heller Victory... well that may do it ;)

I have done 4 Revell 1/72 scale Type VII U-Boats. I really enjoy drilling out all the flood holes!

I've done several YMW kits of the same kit but of a different boat in that class for shipmates of mine who want a model of their particular Boat.  I charge them for the kit and base only.. Sounds corney but I like the giving.. they are all most appreciative and it goes a long way to stroke ones ego he he...

I keep a photo log of all the kits I did and where they went.. Kinda like a 1/350 Electric Boat Company..

My eyes are burning...I thought I'd never have to discuss this topic again...oh well...

In less than 3 years, I built no fewer than 12 Iowa Class battleships, either as the WW2 New Jersey or the modern one. I did work for the BBNJ Foundation.

I've built 3 1/350 scale Essex Class carriers, although one was scratch, one was resin, and the other was Trumpeter. The resin one was never completely finished (about 95%).

Fletcher class destroyers, I've done 8 (that I can remember)...and I actually remember which ones too!!

I've also got 4 more Essex Class I need to build...Franklin, Bennington, Bunker Hill and Intrepid.

i build more than one of many ships ( i only build wwii to modern)what i try to do is to build before and after re-fits same ship yet noticibly different

1/350 USS Missouri:   3 times

Bismark in various scales:  4 times
1/100 scale Soleil Royal:  1.5 times (first time the project was aborted, second time started from scratch)

Currently I am building 1/100 scale Victory.   I have another 1/100 scale Victory kit stashed away as spar parts reserve.   When this Victory is finished, I am considering modifying that one to depict the Victory as she was first built in 1765.

Considering this Victory has been 2 years on the stocks, that one might very well take to the end of the decade.

Ihave built the 1/72 model of the WWII Corvette 4 times.  The first 3 where the Matchbox kit and the last one is Revell Germany.  I've enjoyed all the builds and really have learned a lot from each one I've built. Great way to gain some ship building experience

I've built the revell lionfish 3 times and their Arizona twice.

Yes I have. I am currently building  U.S.S. Yorktown CV5 at Midway by kitbashing the Tamiya 1/700 Enterprise and Hornet kits. I have already completed the U.S.S. Hornet as she was on April 18,1942 launching the Doolittle Raiders and U.S.S. Enterprise during the Truk strikes on February 17, 1944. Others would include the Revell U.S.S. North Carolina ,RMS Titanic , and DKM Bismarck several times each over the years. The fun has been in improving my skills with each effort to make the model as accurate as possible.

Yes, I have built the same model more than once. The ELSIE, a fishing schooner which I built in both 1/8 and 1/16 to the foot scales. The first was a kit and the second scratchbuilt. Next was the New Bedford Whaleboat from Model Shipways which I first built in 2001 and built again early this year.
