Nobody said anything about the 1/520???  Revell kit of Saratoga (cv60) and Forrestall (cv59) these kits are probably much older than the Italarie kits and I wouldn't be supprised if less acurate too.  Photoetch is made for them though so I'm sure a good job can be made of it.  Perhaps some of the other guys know of the pros & cons of the Revell kit.  Whatever kit you build do some rusting around the usuall areas (anchor, water drain areas etc.).  I served on Sara for 8 months while waiting to go to a navy school, 1/3 of a med. cruise and a yard refit in the 70's.  Aircraft carriers are dirteir than you might think.  I was launched in the 50's, so by the time I got on it the ship was 20 yrs. old.

take care............   g.l.

A historical note the CVs 59-62 are of the same class. 59-61 have websites. You'll get plenty of hits by running a google search. HTH  Keep the razors sharp!!Propeller [8-]

I have an Italeri 1/720 USS Saratoga. I have the Gold Medal Moodels photoetch set for 1/720 carriers. I built it into a late 1980s appearance with the photoetch set and some minor scratch builds.

Chasing the ultimate build.

Italieri makes a 1:720 scale kit which they market as the Saratoga.    It is also sold as the Forestall (CV-59) and Ranger (CV-61).    It is not a definative Saratoga from one point in time, rather an amalgam of several ships at several periods.

However, it should be fine for an out-of-the-box build for a friend.   Paint it haze gray and put the 60 on the deck and he'll be happy with it.

USS SARATOGA CV-60 Question
Posted by GRAUWOLF on Friday, December 2, 2005 7:59 AM
Hello fellow ship modellers,
I am primarily a submarine modeller but I need to build the USS SARATOGA CV-60
as seen in the 70s as a gift for a good friend who was stationed on board.
Can anyone recommend a kit (any scale) that would be available to represent this ship.
I know that the SARA underwent many refits but what is the closest I can get to CV-60?

Thanks for your kind attention.
Joe
