Does anyone know of a kit?
Posted by kp80 on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 6:56 AM

Question [?]  I'm looking to build the USS Aldebaran, AF-10, a WWII-era supply ship.  The ship was built as a Maritime Commission C-2 for Grace Lines, but transferred to the US Navy for the war, and remained with the Navy until scrapping.  I've been looking for a kit of the ship itself, or any C2 hull that I can modify.  Any leads?

Liberty ship hulls were designated EC2- for Emergency C2.

Depending on your choice of scale, and if you seek to do waterline or not, you could use one of the Liberty kits which are there.    I used the 1:700 scale Pitroad Bootes AK kit to make a model of my father's ship, the USS Oberon, which was a C2-F hull.   I used the hull and rebuilt from the deck up.

The same could likely be done using the Trump Liberty ship as a basis.  Size the hull for length.  Rebuild from the deck up.  Add goal post derricks vice T-posts.
