Thanks, I've already been to the Combined Fleet page.  It's generally a good reference site, but they don't have much to say about the Hiyo and Junyo.  I guess I'm going to have to go the Gakken route.  They are so expensive, I'm going to have to wait until I have more money.

It's been a mystery to me why there are so few books in English about Japanese ships.  There are plenty about the German navy and its surface ships were less significant than the IJN was.  In the US, practically the entire IJN is available in 1/700 scale, but there is a huge vacuum of reference material in English and the Japanese stuff is very expensive.  Squadron has the resouces to do a series on Japanese ships.  They've done practically everything else.  I don't know why they haven't.

There's a website called combinedfleet that is all about IJN ships and you could get a quick picture look see. I usually get to it through the links menu of the IPMS/USA site.  I don't know the differences off hand.  I'm trying to research IJN Ryujo (lt carrier) and have been there.  Also hobbylink japan sells a series of Gakken books that is japaneese text but lotsa pictures.   good luck....     g.l.

Hiyo and Junyo - Differences?

For some reason the waterline ship consortium never released a model of the Hiyo.  There is the Tamiya Junyo.  I'm curious what the differences were in these ships.  How difficult would it be to convert the Junyo model to the Hiyo?
