Merry Christmas to me! From the HMS Hood?

True, if you are looking for an accurate representation of the H.M.S Hood you won't find it with the Lindberg kit, unless you are willing to do major surgery and some serious scratchbuilding. If that is not an option then you could always put the kit together reasonably well and give it to your Son to play with. Or, if your Son is really counting on seeing it in Daddy's display case, you could always throw a PE set on it and at least it'll look reasonably good.

Bottom line is that it was a gift from two special people. That alone makes it special.

Yah, the hull seems to be the biggest thing I noted right off when comparing to the HMS Hood diagrams online.  The ship had a simply magnificent form of hull with the swells and such, NOT PRESENT in the kit.  I would definitely be putting this model in the water to cover that major inconsistency.

The hull on the Hood kit was so bad I just used the kit to practice gluing ... built the whole thing in an afternoon with no paint or rigging, then gave it to a very happy little boy across the street.  The Hood's real hull was a thing of elegance and beauty, with long, rounded torpedo bulges below the waterline and long, sloping angles for the full length of its freeboard.

 

The Lindberg hull was flat and dull ...

I have the Lindberg Blue Devil Destroyer and its ummm everything is not that great, there are just to many problems to list.

Back in the day, Lindberg was about the only company making those big ship models.  They look very primitive compared to the nice new models out there.

I built one of those Hoods when I was a kid.  Of course I wasn't too concerned about accuracy then.  I played with it in the neighbor's swimming pool a few times.  I'm not sure what happened to it though.

BTW, I believe the Lindbreg name has finally bit the dust.  They were a division of Craft Works in recent years and I noticed Craft Works doesn't advertise Lindberg as one of their brands any more.

  Not at all...I have a Tirpitz in and about the same caliber (pardon the pun)...still in stash, but looking forward to being built.  I am sure your Hood will come out 5 stars !
