I just finished the Hasgawa Hornet (1:700) and am very proud of this build.  In and out of the box for 3 years.  Just put my mind to it and finished it.  Detailed all 16 aircraft and glued them to the deck.  What a difference, when I was a kid, I never would have glued the aircraft, how could you play with the finished product?  Anyway, looks good now I have to find a case to store it in my office, dustfree. I will post a photo soon.

I began the 1:700 waterline Trumpeter Lexington last night.  The directions call for blue grey in gunze.  What doe sthat translate to in Modelmaster acrylic or Tamiya?  I did a search and haven't seen an online build for this.  Is the deck the modelmaster acrylic deck stain as well?

One observation, having finished the Hasegawa and now starting the Trumpeter, all I will say is wow, what a difference.  The Hasegawa plastic was nice and firm and fit was great.  The Trumpeter plastic is soft and light and the directions are pitiful.  An item may have 2 ways to be mounted, there are no distinguishing features in the directions to allow you to orient it correctly.  The pictures I have seen also do not give a clear indication.  I just think it is poor planning on their part.  I will probably lean more toward Tamiya and Hasegawa for my future builds.

I would appreciate helop on the Lexington colors though.  Thanks,

Hi,

I can't help you with MM acrylic or Tamiya equivalents, but can give you a bit of information. LEX's flight deck at the time of Coral Sea was stained with Norfolk 250-N Flight Deck Stain, and the tie-down strips were painted 20-B Deck Blue. We have both these colors accurately matched and available in our Colourcoats line, but they are enamels, not acrylics. (Pre-war, her flight deck was stained with Mahogany Flight Deck Stain and had chrome yellow deck markings.) If you do want to try our enamels, there is no minimum order on paints, and we ship worldwide.

Cheers,
