The Hasegawa Yamato is an older kit, as a result, it suffers from the historical inaccuracies that plagued most Yamato kits until Januz Skulski's AoTS book was released. Tamiya re-tooled their 1/700 kits a few years back to reflect these changes.
The kit has a clunky 3-piece deck, and many of the details are either too heavy or soft. Screws are also way too large. Add to that a lack of readily available PE (you can pick...1/500 or 1/400), I'd suggest picking up a Tamiya kit in 1/350 (they can still be had on Evil-Bay rather cheaply) and adding a GMM or WEM PE set.
It's not a bad kit, and it builds well, but it's not in the running for being the most accurate Yamato.
