Lindberg's 1:32 PT109 - Discontinued?
Posted by theoracle7 on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 11:41 AM

Greetings!

Does anyone know for certain that the 1:32 PT 109 from Lindberg has been discontinued?  I was thinking about building one but there's seems to be nothing that confirms or denies that this kit will be here in the near future!

    Thanks to anyone who knows...

Yours,

Drewster

IIRC on greatmodels.com  they had mentioned the kit was a limited production. I was thinking of ordering one myself.
ok found it. (no link tho)  I had printed it out
1/32 Ib70813 JFK'sPT-109

Limited edition of 7,500 kits.  It was a reissue

An alternative to the Lindberg PT109 is the 1:32 scale fiberglass hull sold by Micro Glass for $89.95.  You get a bare fiberglass hull and a nicely drawn set of plans.  Micro Glass also offers the Elco 77 footer and Higgins 78 footer hulls for the same price in 1:32 scale.   You will have to scratchbuild everything from the deck up. You'll also need to provide props, shafts, rudders, weapons and all the fittings.

Now that's interesting CG Bob, thanks for the info on this. Who made the plans? Just curious

Lindberg re-issues it every few years, shop around and you may find one or wait for the next re-issue

I believe the plans are by Al Ross.

CG Bob, if that is correct, they'll be pretty accurate. Al Ross has been an authority on the  PT Boat plans. I'm currently waiting on  a book he co-authored "Allied Coastal Forces of WWII" vol 2.

The plans for the Lindberg kit aren't from Al Ross.  The Lindberg kit (both the small 1:64 and the big 1:32 scale versions can trace their ancestry back to the Varney kit of 1944.  In fact, the Lindberg 1:64 scale version is just a plastic re-pop of the Varney kit.

Al Ross designed the Blue Jacket kit.

I just found the Micro Glass plans in my shop.  The Micro Glass 80' Elco hull comes with plans by A. P. Ross II for the PT 109.
