cool well I hopefully will be getting the book tomorrow so i shall be able to gage then:) that said I doubt I am actually going to get started for at least another 3-4 months as I have to build some scenery for a river action in WW1, then I have to find and build some WW1 pre dreads, dreads and destroyers for a display for the 90 jutland anniversary. So I have plenty of time before Yamato project

AoTS Yamato will more than answer any questions you may have.   The plans noted are by Wiswesser.   They are a single sheet and some posters may well doubt their veracity/accuracy

Robh you might want to check this out:

They have drawings that are very well detailed. Just click foreign ships, then battleships and then you’ll see the Yamato listed somewhere on the bottom. I’ve order items from these people before and they’re very nice.

Yes, it is! Have you been there yet, Kansenfan?

And welcome to FSM!

And is "kansenfan" this: 艦船ファン (warship fan) by any chance?
I'd bet it is!

I saw the film a couple of weeks ago. Pretty good! Not a whole lot of action, with just a bit of Leyte Gulf stuff and of course the final battle on the way to Okinawa.
It's not a love story, either. That is, it's more of a drama about familial love, friendships forged in battle, and the heartbreaking losses caused by war. Lots of sniffling in the theater.
The Yamato itself looks great on the big screen! The partial 1/1 set was completed on-screen via CGI, and looks very convincing. They also used models and full CGI to show her cruising at sea and engaged in battle. Most of the close-up battle action featuring the main characters centers on their three-barreled 25mm AA emplacement. We do get a couple of nice scenes of the big 18-inch guns firing: once in the Leyte Gulf scenes, and again later when US aircraft spot the Yamato as it was heading to Okinawa.
With lots of interior and exterior shots of the Yamato, this film should be interesting for any Yamato fans!

The partial 1/1 set has been preserved and can be toured. I still haven't made it down to Kure to visit the Yamato museum (with that magnificent 1/10 Yamato), but when I do, I'll visit the set. too.

That’s an impressive set they made for this movie. After watching a few movie trailers, this definitely seems (obviously) like a love film IMO. I wouldn’t mind seeing this movie, only if they have a good 10 to 15 minutes of combat filming that is realistic and not Hollywood.

Actually she did get to fire her guns in anger. Yamato entered Leyte Gulf and fired on the US carriers; USS Gambier Bay in particular was possibly hit by her 18" guns. Yamato's secondary batteries also fired on the US destroyers that were making torpedo runs at her and the rest of the fleet.

thats exactly what they are doing making it a love story from what I have gathered from what little english stuff it there is about it it is about the men of the ship and the fact they all knew that they were sailing to their doom and the anquish of their families.

I'm a little confused, what will the movie be about? Like the Titanic the Yamato was know for only one thing, sinking.. Well actually two things, they were both big.. Not much of a movie unless they add a Love story LOL.

I thought that making a 3/4 scale Titanic for the movie could never be done...But after looking at the 1/10 scale Yamato in the Yamato Museum, there was a link for a movie...

http://www.oshipee.com/omami/e-photo-yamatomovie-set.htm

A 1/1! Wow is all I can say...

http://www.yamato-movie.jp/

The movie should be released this summer in the US...I have always imagined historically accurate (hopefully) naval action movies done with todays special effects...The wish list while im at it Tongue [:P]

-Sink the Bismark Remake
