I saw a few inquiries if anybody had built Artesania Latina's King of the Mississippi. I have just completed one. I am in the finishing stages of completing a riverfront diorama to accompany the boat.
As this was my first actual wooden kit after years of building plastic kits I took unusual pains to write up a 100+ page detailed set of instructions in case I ever wanted to build this kit again. The instructions in the kit leave a lot to be desired for someone building their first wooden kit. I have also photo-documented every step of the process with over 500 color photos (love that digital camera!) and am in the process of having someone convert it to a DVD.
I am the current vice president of the Chattanooga Model Boat Club and went to all this trouble to help first timers through the difficulties that I went through on a kit of this nature. It was a great learning experience, though, and I hope to move on to plank-on-frame kits and eventually scratch-built kits. Some projects I'd like to tackle are the RMS Legacy from Disney's Treasure Planet, Noah's Ark (a display model that could be opened up to see the inner deck detail) and a "Ghost Ship" made of plexiglass, monofilament, and other translucent materials.
