a little inquiry for box scale fans

Does 1/400 qualify as box scale? I am building a Revell 'Esso Glasgow', but converting it to something quite different. The T-2 hull was converted to quite a few other uses, principaly early containerships.

I'd like to aquire the Revell C-3 'Hawaiian Pilot'. It shows up on occasion in my local shop. The C-3 is also a good basis for lot's of conversions.

As far as I know every scale other than 1/350, 1/700 and 1/96 are counted as box scale. so yes, 1/400 is box scale as well

no box scale is not that what it is is models that are manufactured to fit in a specific sized box

the most popular example is 30cm which is aprox. 12" inches in the usa

an example would be a company will  make a model of a destroyer that fits in a box of 32cm and then the same company makes an aircraft carrier model that fits in the same 32 cm box both models are the same physical size but the destroyer might work out to be 1/379th scale and the a/c carrier works out at 1/995th scale. if the company made a second destroyer of a different class ship that was maybe 8-12 meters bigger the scale might  be 1 /399 th  because it fit in the same box and is the same 30cm lenth as the frst one

   I have a box scale I'd like to see reissued. But it was a BIG box. It was the USS Halibut, with motor and  "working"  rocket by IPC. It could, also, "dive". The details were lousey and the scale was oddball. I'd buy it in a New York second.

I love box scale and odd scale ships. I grab all I can. I have old 1950's US models and recent 30cms from Communist China. This doesn't mean I agree with communism. I hate it.

I would like to find a list of the actual scales of the 30cm ships.

ST people will be interested to know (or may already know) that the 30cm CVN Enterprise has been estimated as being close to 1/1000 which is the scale of the TOS PL Enterprise 1701. If true, this might mean the Nimitz is at least close to 1/1000 also.
