Detail and Scale's (Kalmbach Books) publication USS Lexington states the scale of the Lindberg Essex to be 1/520. It also says the kit is a piece of junk in so many words......"it would be just as easy to build a model from scratch as it would be to "accurize" this one." Enjoy

Go to ebay and get a good deal on the Trumpeter Essex. The kit is an absolute delight to build. Get a Tom's PE set for it as well. As for the Lindberg kit., hopefully you haven't started it. Rebox it and sell it on ebay. If it's old and rare it might pay for the trumpeter version

Has anyone done this? I would like any suggestions. It appears to be short in length. Also does anyone know of add-on kits for this model? I think the scale is roughly 1/550 or so.
