So whats all the fuss about MiniHobbyModels? Ive seen and have the tamiya kit. In looking at both side by side there is no difference. The MHM kit is flawless. No flash on the parts, good plastic....for all intensive purposes it is just as good with the much more expensive tamiya kit. So why does everyone hate MHM?

Hi joey,

I recently built the MHM 1/350 Prince of Wales. (Pics recently posted) I agree, the parts out of the box are flash free and compare pretty well with an identical Tamiya version for the most part. I compared my MHM PoW to a Tamiya 1/350 King George V kit I have in my stash. The overall profile of the MHM version seems to be correct. The only exception may be the smaller pieces where the Tamiya versions are a bit thinner and more to scale. Some of the detail on the superstructure parts may also be a bit "cleaner" on the Tamiya version. At least that was the case with the PoW's kit parts. I have found that the actual fit of most of the parts is not as good as a Tamiya kit, but with a little putty and sanding you will get good results.

The bottom line is, if you take on a MHM kit thinking it will go together as crisply as a Tamiya kit, you may be disappointed. If you take on the kit with an open mind, willing to do some extra work and add a nice PE set(s) to it, you will come up with a very nice model that compares to a Tamiya version. After all, MHM kits are cast from old Trumpeter molds so there is some quality to them.

Good luck !

Tell me more about this MHM kit. Are we talking about the 1/350 Enterprise? How much did ut cost and where did you get it from? I'm certainly interested in adding it to the stash and especially if it's less expensive than the Tamiya kit.Thumbs Up [tup]
