What's wrong with Lindberg ?
Posted by kapudan_emir_effendi on Sunday, February 26, 2006 11:33 AM

Greetings sires,

I wonder what's wrong with lindberg. They own whole molds of Pyro-Plastics ships, which are fascinating subjects (I don't know any other company that produced arab dhow or fijian ship ever since for example) but they are inexplicably not reissuing them since early 90's. Those models rocks astronomic prices on e-bay but still lindberg refuses to reissue them. They even don't have a website or e-mail. I really wonder what's wrong with them.

Best wishes

Don't surrender the ship !

They're probably waiting for the street price to go over $100/kit and then re-issue them as "limited editions" Sad [:(]

Go figure, if any employees have a "stash" in a warehouse, they can sell it more profitably as individuals on e-bay then as a business to wholesalers.

You might try checking out Craft House at their site as they have Lindberg now.  I went there but I didn't find any detailed information about Lindberg.  Actually, I was curious and thought I might find something about Paul Lindberg, like a brief biography, company history, and so forth.  I didn't get anywhere, but then, I'm one of those people who gives up easy when searching the net.

Craft House probably does not invest time and energy into model kits.  This is probably just a little sideline business for them.  The upper management probably doesn't know sprues from glues.  It's cheaper to keep the old labeling, a few old molds, and not invest in new packaging, etc.  Lindberg is there in name only.  Like when Sara Lee bought Jimmy Dean.  They fired him as spokesman and kept his name only.   For recognition by the consumer.  All they had to do was add their logo to the packaging.  From model ships to sausage...guess I'd better get some sleep!

Lindberg have (or had) a whole load of large-scale warship kits - 1/125 Admirable-class minesweeper, 1/160 Carronade-class fire support ship, 1/72ish USCG cutter, various landing craft, etc.
The only ones they've reissued so far have been the (infamous) 1/125 Fletcher, LCT, LST and 1/32 LCVP. Wonder if we'll ever see the others again? The minesweeper in particular fetches huge prices on eBay.
